By Act of Congress, the year 1932 was set apart for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of George Washington, the Commissioners being the President and Vice President of the United States, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The Hon. Representative Sol Bloom from the State of New York was named Associate Director.  Cities and hamlets throughout the nation were asked to join in an appropriate celebration preferably in pagentry form. Mr. Heber Ermentrout, Mayor of the City of Reading, after receiving his official communication, asked Dr. Warren F. Teel, the President of Albright College if the college would undertake the project for the city of Reading. Dr. Teel then consulted with Elmer L. Mohn, President of the College Alumni Association, and the Association undertook the task. The affair received such an acclaim after the performance that there was such a demand, the performance was repeated the following evening. The pageant was held on June 4 and 6, 1932.
